Quoting words of Thomas Jefferson

Dear Editor:

Wow, what an ugly mess this City of Penticton finds itself in! Province-wide, people are discussing, with shocked disbelief, the issue of upending Penticton’s beautiful Skaha Lake Park in favour of putting in a commercially-developed waterslide.

Mayor and council have certainly made a questionable name for themselves. Mayor suggests they will do a better job consulting with the people of Penticton on further decisions in regards to our parkland.

Not this one though, as the final papers have been signed!

No way, face the music now! You are not going to push this issue through without a referendum! Don’t try to cajole us with a promise of doing better the next time, do it with the Skaha Park waterslide issue. A waterslide has no place in a public park. There are several appropriate sights available. It is all about location, location, location.

A referendum would cost each taxpayer a couple of bucks. That is the fair and democratic way this should be handled. Money well spent to put an end to this unrest in our city.

I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said: “Anything worth having is worth fighting for.” Well, Penticton, fight we will, so hold on tight!
